미국 최초 흑인 대통령 버락 오바마와 세계 두 번째 갑부 워렌

버핏이 친척관계 라는 사실이 로이터에 의해서 보도 되었다.

 

이 사실은 웹 사이트 '앤세스트리 닷컴'(ancestry.com)의 계보

학자들에 의해서 우연히 발견 되었다고 한다.

 

이 두 사람의 족보를 따라가면, 그들은 17세기 프랑스인 마린

두발이라는 사람에 의해 연결 되어 있다고 한다.

 

두발은 오바마 대통령의 9대조 할아버지이며, 버핏의 6대조

할아버지 라고 한다.

 

오바마는 그의 선거운동 당시 부통령 딕 체니와 먼 친척 이라는

사실이 체니의 아내 린 체니에 의해 밝혀져 관심을 받았었다.

Reuters reported on Dec. 15 about President Obama and Warren Buffett’s family connection. According to their family tree, the two men are seventh cousins three times removed.

 

The article said genealogists at ancestry.com announced on Tuesday that Obama and Buffett are related through 17th century Frenchman named Mareen Duvall. The website showed Duvall, who immigrated to Maryland from France in the 1650s, is the president’s 9th great grandfather and the investment guru’s 6th great grandfather. The discovery was made accidentally by same team of genealogists who had researched Obama’s family tree went on to investigate Buffett’s.

 

"We recognized the name Duvall and it made us wonder if this was a connection," said Anastasia Tyler, the lead researcher on the project, according to Reuters. "So we started focusing on Duvall." "We're always looking for a way to show how interesting family history is. Like this, when you start finding similarities in family trees," Tyler said in an interview. "The tree leads you in directions you don't expect."

 

The family tree indicates that Obama is related to Duvall through his mother Stanley Ann Dunham while Buffett is linked to the man through his father Howard Buffett. Tyler described their common ancestor’s life by “rags-to-riches” story. According to the genealogist, Duvall arrived in America as an indenture servant but by 1659, he had bought a property in Maryland and became a planter and merchants.

 

"It's quite an achievement," Tyler said of Duvall's rise in society. "You can see similarities to him in both (Obama's and Buffett's) lives."

 

Reuters also said during the presidential campaign, Lynne Cheney found that her husband Dick Cheney, then vice president, was a distant cousin of Obama’s. President Obama has also found his German blood through his sixth great grandfather, and a connection to Ireland through his third great grandfather.

미국의 억만장자 투자가 워런 버핏이 유독 버락 오바마 대통령에게 친근감을 표시한 데에는 이유가 있었다? 15일 가계족보 추적 전문 웹사이트인 '앤세스트리 닷컴'(ancestry.com)에 따르면 오바마와 버핏은 둘 다 17세기 프랑스인 마렌 뒤발의 자손이다.    1650년대 프랑스에서 미국 메릴랜드로 이주한 뒤발은 오바마 대통령의 11대조(代祖=9th great grandfather)이면서, 버핏의 8대조(6th great grandfather)이기도 하다.    미국에서 '9번째 증조부'(great grandfather)는 아버지를 1대조로 보는 한국식으로는 11대조에 해당한다.  뒤발은 오바마의 어머니인 스탠리 앤 던햄 쪽 조상이면서 버핏의 아버지인 하워드 버핏 쪽 조상인 만큼 한국의 '친척'에는 해당하지 않지만 혈연관계라는 것만큼은 틀림이 없다.   친척과 외척을 구별하지 않는 미국식 사고로는 버핏(79)이 멀긴 하지만 오바마(48)의 증조부뻘인 셈이다. 두 유명인사 사이에 혈연관계가 있다는 사실은 오바마 대통령의 가계를 연구하던 족보 연구자들이 우연히 버핏 친척의 가계를 조사하게 되면서 밝혀졌다.   아나스타샤 타일러 수석연구원은 "우리는 뒤발이라는 이름에서 두 사람이 연결된다는 사실을 발견하고 무척 놀랐다"고 말했다.   조사 결과에 따르면 뒤발은 입지전적 인생을 살았다. 그는 미국에 도착할 때만 해도 기한부 하인에 불과했지만 1659년에는 재산을 모아 농장주 겸 상인이 됐다. 전형적인 '시골 신사'였다.   타일러 연구원은 "뒤발도 (오바마나 버핏) 두 사람과 비슷하게 성공적인 삶을 살았다"고 설명했다. 앞서 미국 대선 기간에도 딕 체니 전 부통령의 부인 린 체니 여사가 "오바마는 남편의 먼 친척"이라고 밝힌 적이 있다. 오바마의 8대조는 독일인이었고, 5대조는 아일랜드인이었다.  (연합뉴스)
